65-percent of solid municipal waste in Banyuwangi consists of organic waste. This mostly ends up in landfills, causing public health problems and methane emissions contributing to climate change. Facilitating a more circular economy would utilise the resources in organic waste, reduce waste going to landfill and decrease the methane emissions from landfills.
CLOCC, through implementing partner Indonesia Solid Waste Association (InSWA), is mobilising stakeholders to create a comprehensive and circular waste management plan for Banyuwangi Regency, which will be launched in March/ April 2023.
As part of this process, a study for opportunities to divert biowaste from landfill has been conducted.
The Roadmap for a Circular Bioeconomy in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, is a study conducted by Norwegian waste and biogas company Lindum, on behalf of Avfall Norge and the Clean Oceans through Clean Communities project (CLOCC). It explores the possibilities for establishing a circular bioeconomy in the regency of Banyuwangi, in East Java, Indonesia.
Sustainable management of biowaste is key to reducing marine plastic pollution and micro plastics. This is because in order to sustainably manage plastics, all waste streams, especially organic waste must be well managed.
In Part 1 of the webinar the report will be launched, followed by reflections on the solutions available, possibilities and untapped opportunities for biogas companies and other companies engaged in biogas and biowaste value chains in Indonesia.
Also representatives from the Norwegian, Danish and Swedish governments will elaborate on opportunities and challenges for investments in Indonesia.
Part 2 of the webinar will be a pitching session where selected Scandinavian companies within biogas and bioeconomy value chains will pitch their solutions and experiences.
