Bali is rapidly emerging as an economic hub where international capital meets deep-rooted local wisdom. With economic growth above 5.5% and tourism improving strongly in 2025, the island is sending a clear message: Bali welcomes foreign investment, but it must be a smarter, more sustainable business.
As Bali opens up, one critical question arises: how can investment truly benefit the island, not just economically but also culturally and environmentally?
Free of Political Noise
In response to this shift, the Bali Tourism & Investment Chamber (BTIC) was established. BTIC is a collaborative initiative fully supported by Indonesian government, designed to connect foreign investors with local stakeholders and policymakers. It has one mission: to foster responsible investment that benefits Bali’s economy, environment, and communities.
The Chamber provides a clear, diplomatic channel to engage policymakers and understand regulatory frameworks, and ensure your investment project stays on the right side of the law and local sentiment.
This transparent engagement is a core component of the Chamber’s original mission: to be a ‘bridge for real change,’ a platform free of political noise and conflict of interest, with a laser focus on ensuring transparency and accountability. As the founders put it: ‘When dialogue replaces assumption, progress begins’.”
And speaking about founders, BTIC founding circle included Terje H Nilsen of Seven Stones Indonesia, Charlotte Sophie of Yak Magazine, Elvira Wijsen of Plastic Bags, Robert Ian Bonnick of Karya Lyfe Group and Robert Beard of the Bali Foreign Investment Advisory Service.
“Our main aim is to have a transparent and open dialog with all level of government and also investors to increase clarity in the market and attract in general good investors aware of regulations from day one,” said Terje H Nilsen of Seven Stones Indonesia, co-founders of BTIC. “The actual legal framework is there, although there are some issues that needs to be worked out between the central government and the provincial. As well as an awful lot of misperceptions among foreigners as to what they can do and not,” Terje continued.
Key Programs of the Chamber
BTIC is a platform built for action, not just discussion. For any foreign entrepreneur, these key programs represent an invaluable resource for risk mitigation and compliance:
• Regular forums for open dialogue between investors and government
• Monthly updates on policies, permits, and compliance
• Annual recognition for sustainable investment practices
• Licensing and regulatory workshops to help investors navigate local policies
• Community-driven development partnerships that prioritize impact
Measurable Outcomes
By engaging with those programs above, BTIC aims to fundamentally reset the standard for foreign enterprise in Bali, leading to these crucial results:
• Enhanced communication and coordination between investors and government
• Improved investor confidence and legal clarity in Bali’s regulatory landscape.
• Measurable improvements in Bali’s tourism, environment, and livelihoods
• Establishment of Bali as a national model for sustainable investment governance.
“I guess [our success] will be measured by how many sustainable foreign partners we can attract that enhance Bali’s unique culture, as well as the creation of one voice towards and from the foreign community,” added co-founder Terje H. Nilsen.
Profitable and Protected
The fundamentals for investment in Indonesia are strong: the government has streamlined licensing via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, and the country’s economic growth and large population can yield high returns.
However, the question for any entrepreneur must be: “What is my first, most critical step to ensure my project is both profitable and protected?”
As conversations around responsible investment deepen, new platforms are emerging to help align investor interests with local priorities.
One such initiative is the Bali Tourism & Investment Chamber (BTIC), whose guiding mantra is “Building Bridges for a Sustainable Bali.” Designed as a collaborative space, BTIC brings together investors, local stakeholders, and government representatives to foster dialogue, transparency, and shared understanding.
