Bali’s New Immigration Patrol: What It Means for Foreigners Living Here

•••••

If you’re a foreigner doing business or living in Bali, you might’ve heard about the new Immigration Patrol Task Force that was just launched on August 5th.

It’s part of a broader effort to keep things running smoothly on the island and make sure everyone’s playing by the rules, locals and foreigners alike.

How Bali Immigration Patrol Will Operate

A team of 100 immigration officers will be patrolling Bali’s busiest zones such as Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Jimbaran, and more. They will be equipped with safety vests and body cameras, moving around on motorcycles and patrol cars.

The patrols will cover 10 strategic locations under the Ngurah Rai and Denpasar Immigration Offices jurisdiction, including:

• North Kuta (Canggu)

• Seminyak, Kerobokan

• Matahari Terbit Port and Benoa Port

• Pecatu (Uluwatu, Bingin)

• Mertasari Beach

• Kuta and Gianyar Districts (Ubud)

• Nusa Dua and Jimbaran

“Team leaders and Patrol Officers will patrol predetermined routes, especially in areas prone to immigration violations or regions where foreign nationals are concentrated. Patrol movement schedules are conducted periodically and randomly to avoid predictable patterns,” Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, explained.

Why Bali Immigration Patrol Task Force Was Formed

The numbers speak for themselves. Between November and December 2024, immigration authorities deported 607 individuals and detained 303.

Fast forward to January–July 2025, and those figures jumped to 2,669 deportations and 2,009 detentions. In total, 62 foreign nationals have faced legal proceedings during that time.

This Task Force is part of a broader effort to maintain national security, prevent violations, and build public trust in immigration enforcement. As Yuldi put it, “We will continue to intensify similar operations, both on a local scale such as routine Task Force Patrols and on a national scale like Wira Waspada.”

What Does This Mean?

If you’re living, working, or running a business in Bali, this is a great time to make sure everything’s in order. If your paperwork is in order, you’re all set. But it’s a great time to give everything a quick check. Visas, stay permits, business licenses, just to stay ahead of the curve. Here’s what you can do:

🔍 Make sure your visa matches your activities (working, investing, etc.)

🔍 Keep your KITAS/KITAP or other permits up to date

🔍 If you employ foreign staff, make sure their documents are sorted too

🔍Reach out to a legal or immigration consultant if you’re unsure about anything

To avoid any unexpected issues, it’s a good idea to stay mindful of local traffic rules and public order. Simple things like wearing a helmet, driving responsibly, and being respectful in shared spaces go a long way. Bali’s communities are warm, welcoming and showing that same respect back helps everyone feel at home.

Smart Steps for a Hassle-Free Stay

Bali’s charm lies in its balance: welcoming people from around the world while keeping things respectful and orderly. The new patrols are just part of that effort. Think of it as a friendly reminder to stay on top of your paperwork and keep your business thriving.

If you’re unsure about your stay permit, business licenses, tax filings, or labor law compliance, our team at Seven Stones Indonesia is ready to assist. Reach out to us to learn more about our comprehensive legal compliance checks.
