By familiarizing yourself with these details, you can choose the most suitable visa to explore the wonders of Indonesia. According to new regulation issued by Ministry of Law and Human Rights on October 2023 about Visa Classification, these are the new update types of Indonesia’s visa you can apply:

Working KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit/Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas/KITAS (code: C312)

This is the type of visa that allows foreigners to work legally in Indonesia with a validity period of 1 year (extendable). Before applying to Immigration Office, applicants must first apply to Indonesia’s Minister of Manpower to obtain RPTKA (Foreign Workers Recruitment Plan) and IMTA (Expatriate Working Permit Letter). After you get both RPTKA and IMTA, then the Ministry will handover the documents to Immigration Office for KITAS processing.

Yes, KITAS’ requirements and the process are more complicated because it takes more steps. It also needs more documents provided by the company you work for, such as:

· Deed of Corporation or Deed of Company Restructuring issued by Ministry of Law & Human Rights

· Business Registration Number (Nomor Induk Berusaha/NIB) and Approval of Conformity of Spatial Utilization Activities (Persetujuan Kesesuaian Kegiatan Pemanfaatan Ruang/PKKPR) obtain by registration on Online Single Submission.

· Company’s Tax Identity Number (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak/NPWP)

· Company’s bank statement minimum 150 million IDR in the last 3 months

Meanwhile, some personal documents you need to prepare are basically the same with single entry and multiple entry visa. However, as foreign workers you also must submit your Indonesia’s social security for workers (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), residential address in Indonesia, your college degree and curriculum vitae. Oh, and don’t forget to prepare 1200 USD per year or 100 USD per month to pay for the Expertise and Skills Development Fund (DPKK – Dana Pengembangan Keahlian dan Keterampilan).

Investor KITAS (Code: E28A)

This type of visa is specifically for foreigners who intend to establish a foreign-owned company or for those who hold the position of director or commissioner in a foreign company registered in Indonesia. Usually, this type of visa is valid for 2 years and can be extended. Some of the requirements are the same as the Working KITAS type, both individuals and companies must submit certain documents mentioned above. However, there are a few differences as below:

  • Applicants must have a minimum capital or share in the Company of IDR 10 billion
  • Validity period of ID passport for Investor KITAS is minimum 30 months
  • Unlike Working KITAS that requires health insurance and curriculum vitae, applicants for investor KITAS do not need to submit those two documents.
  • And unlike single-entry and multiple-entry visas that allow the applicants to input temporary residential addresses like hotels, Investor KITAS require semi-permanent addresses like rental houses.

Family KITAS

It is common for foreigners and expatriates working in Indonesia to bring in their family or get married with Indonesian citizen. These situations require specific visa classifications, which are outlined below:

Spousal KITAS

Spousal KITAS Code: E31A: This is a temporary stay permit for foreigners who are legally married to Indonesian citizen. This KITAS is valid for 1 year and extendable. Regardless the nationality and gender, both the husband and the wife must submit their personal documents as follow:

· Personal bank statement minimum 2,000 USD

· Recent colored photograph

Spousal KITAS Code: E31B: This KITAS is for foreigners who are legally married to KITAS/KITAP holders. In other words, both the husband and wife are foreign nationals who live in Indonesia for a certain period of time.

The validity period is also the same as the first spousal KITAS, which is 1 year and can be extended. For the application, the company that hired first KITAS holders must be the sponsor and submit the same documents that mentioned above. For personal documents, these are the things you need to prepare:

· ID passport minimum validity period is 18 months when you apply for this visa

· Marriage certificate registered in their origin country

·  Recent colored photograph

Dependent KITAS

Dependent KITAS E31C: This stay permit is for children of mixed-marriage between Indonesian citizen and a foreigner. For the documents, it has similar requirements with the spousal KITAS above. The validity period for Dependent KITAS is the same with the parent. The documents that the parents need to submit also basically the same with the requirements for spousal KITAS code E31A. While for the children, these are the documents to submit:

·  Parents’ marriage certificate registered in embassy or Indonesia’s Religious Affairs Office (Kantor Urusan Agama/KUA) or Civil Registration Office (Kantor Catatan Sipil)

·  Birth certificate of the children

·  Same residential address with Indonesian parent who become the sponsor

·  Recent colored photograph
