However, in recent years, the Indonesian government has introduced a program that caters to a different demographic – expatriates and retirees looking to make Indonesia their second home.

The Second Home Visa Program offers a host of benefits and opportunities for those who wish to reside in this tropical paradise. In this article, we will explore the advantages and requirements of this program.

What is the Second Home Visa Program in Indonesia?

A second home visa is a non-work visa granted to foreigners and their families who want to live permanently in Indonesia for 5 or 10 years. Whether you’re looking for affordable slow living in retirement or a dynamic market for business, there are lots of advantages if you apply for this program.

Key Benefits of Obtaining a Second Home Visa in Indonesia

  1. Long-Term Residency

One of the primary benefits of obtaining a Second Home Visa in Indonesia is the opportunity for long-term residency. While typical tourist visas offer short stays, the Second Home Visa provides a pathway for expatriates to enjoy extended periods in the country. Initially granted for one year, this visa can be renewed for up to five years, giving you ample time to explore and embrace the Indonesian way of life.

  1. Streamlined Application Process

The application process for a Second Home Visa is generally straightforward compared to other types of visas. Indonesia has made efforts to streamline the process, reducing bureaucratic hurdles. This makes it easier for foreigners to navigate the application procedure and enjoy their stay without unnecessary delays.

  1. Investment Opportunities

Indonesia presents a wealth of investment opportunities for Second Home Visa holders. Whether you’re interested in real estate, starting a business, or engaging in entrepreneurial activities, you have the chance to contribute to the local economy and potentially secure a stable financial future.

Living in Indonesia with a Second Home Visa allows you to immerse yourself in the country’s rich and diverse culture. From exploring traditional ceremonies and festivals to learning about various ethnic groups and their traditions, you can experience the true essence of Indonesia.

  1. Beautiful Natural Scenery

Indonesia is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, from picturesque beaches to dense jungles and active volcanoes. As a Second Home Visa holder, you have the opportunity to wake up to breathtaking views and enjoy a life enriched by Indonesia’s diverse ecosystems.

  1. Access to World-Class Healthcare

Indonesia has been making significant strides in providing world-class healthcare services. Second Home Visa holders often have access to excellent healthcare facilities and services, ensuring that they can receive medical attention and enjoy a high standard of healthcare while living in the country.

  1. Retirement Destination

For retirees, Indonesia is an attractive retirement destination. The Second Home Visa program, while not exclusively designed for retirees, offers a peaceful and exotic environment that’s perfect for those looking to retire in paradise.

Requirements for a Second Home Visa

To take advantage of these benefits, it’s crucial to meet the requirements for a Second Home Visa in Indonesia:

  1. Age: While the age requirement may vary, it typically starts at 60 years or older.
  2. Income or Financial Requirements: Applicants need to demonstrate a regular monthly income or savings to support themselves.
